Bitmap to Vector graphics with OSS

Normally, we need to use Adobe Illustrator (AI) to do design work, but we can't always afford to pay for the license fees of AI.

Due to some work in the company, recently, I have discovered a great feature in the open source vector drawing program - Inkscape: its excellent capability in tracing bitmap to vector graphics (PNG -> SVG). Actually, I knew the feature was there, I just didn't realize it worked in such a flawless & high-quality manner.

In fact, this morning, when I assisted my company's HR department to work on a Mid-Autumn festival card to be distributed to 300+ employees in Hong Kong, I actually made use of this tracing tool in real work! ^_^

Here's the trick, to use GIMP & Inkscape for fulfilling the tracing from EPS -> SVG, for those who are interested.

Some interesting technique involved actually [in the comment section, also mentioned of using Scribus too!]:

Manually Convert EPS to SVG

Using completely open source graphics tool to produce design work is one step closer, at least for me.

PS: Inkscape can use a lot of RAM, luckily, I just upgraded my company's PC to 2GB RAM.
